The Best Sauerkraut in the Oven

  • Grated cabbage is very healthy and should be consumed a lot during the winter, it is full of vitamin C, which is necessary for us to defend various viruses. You can make grated cabbage prepared this way with roasting, some dried meat, knees, etc … It is very easy to prepare and very tasty, especially if it is baked with ribs or the knee gets a real taste. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: very easy, total time: 60 min, 4 persons
  • 800 g of grated sauerkraut

  • 5–6 heads of onion/ finely chopped

  • 5-6 bay leaves

  • 10 peppercorns

  • 7 cloves of garlic/ finely chopped

  • a piece of dried meat / 1 pc. knees 3–4 ribs

  • 150 g bacon/ finely sliced

  • 2-3 tsp dry spice/ Vegeta

  • 4-5 tsp red ground peppers

  • 2-3 Tbsp lard or oil

Preparation:
  1. Wash sauerkraut and remove excess salt.

  2. Put grated sauerkraut in an espresso pot, add bay leaves and peppercorns and boil very briefly in a little water, just enough to soften. About 8 minutes.

  3. After that, strain it and fry it with finely chopped onion, preferably on homemade fat.

  4. Put the dried meat you have in the same water where you boiled the cabbage and cook it for about 15 minutes.

  5. When is everything done, take a full spoonful of fat and put it in the pan that stood on your stove while the oven was heating up.

  6. The fat will start to melt, add grated cabbage, and pour pepper to your taste, add red ground peppers, finely chopped garlic, bacon, spice dry/ Vegeta seasoning and mix it all well.

  7. When you have mixed everything well, add the dried meat to the top. Put 2 bay leaves on the side.

  8. And put to bake in a preheated oven at 170 °C, 35 minutes.

  9. After that, take the pan out of the oven and check if you need to add more fat or water, cabbage absorbs a lot of fat when baking, as well as water.

  10. Then increase the oven temperature to 190 °C and bake just long enough to capture the color on the cabbage. About 10–15 minutes.

  11. Serve warm.
