Corn Bread on Fat

  • Serbian appetizer, healthy and delicious. You can also combine it with fresh salty cheese and bacon. You can consume it for breakfast or dinner. Easy preparation of corn bread with fat, tasty and fast. A nice appetizer for breakfast or dinner. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: easy, total time:45 min, 8 servings
  • 500 ml of water

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 500 g of corn meal

  • 1.5-2 Tablespoons of lard

Preparation:

  1. Coat a baking tray measuring about 25 × 35 cm with 1/2 tablespoon of lard. Turn on the oven to 200 °C.

  2. Pour cold water into the bowl and add salt and eggs. Stir with a mixer, then gradually add the cornflour, stirring constantly so that no lumps form. You will get a creamy dough. Pour the mixture into the prepared and greased pan.

  3. Heat the remaining lard separately, then pour it over the corn bread/proja. Put the pan in a preheated oven and after 15-20 min. remove and prick the corn bread/proja with a fork.

  4. Return to the oven and bake until golden brown, a total of 30 – 40 minutes depending on the oven.

  5. Check the dough with a toothpick before removing. When it is ready, cover with a clean cloth and wait for about 10 minutes, then serve with some good cheese or cream.
