Boiled Cabbage with Potatoes and Ribs Lena
  • Sweet cabbage in my way, Traditional Serbian food. It has a delicious taste healthy and rich in vitamins, try it, you will have a very good meal on a table. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: medium, total time: 90 min., 6 servings
  • 2 kg cabbage

  • 400 – 500 g dried ribs/mutton or lamb can use also sausages, bacon, pork, diced beef combine what you like

  • 500 ml tomato juice/ or 2–3 big tomatoes

  • 2 parsnips/ finely chopped

  • 2 medium onions/ finely chopped

  • 2 carrots/ cut into rings

  • 4 cloves garlic/ finely chopped

  • 3 larger potatoes/ diced

  • 1/2 bunch of primrose leaves/ finely chopped

  • dry spice Vegeta, salt, pepper/ to taste

  • 2 Tbsp ground red pepper

  • 2 Tbsp vinegar/ alcoholic or apple cider vinegar

  • 4-5 Tbsp oil

  • about 2 liters of water

Preparation:
  1. Boil dry ribs in water and vinegar.

  2. Cook them for about 15–20 minutes, strain, and rinse with warm water.

  3. Cut the cabbage into small cubes, as well as the carrot and potatoes.

  4. Sauté finely chopped onion and garlic in oil, add a little water, continue to simmer for 2 minutes.

  5. Add half of the chopped cabbage, all vegetables, then arrange the dried meat and cover with the rest of the cabbage.

  6. Put a sprig of primrose leaves between it, add spices, red ground pepper, boiled tomatoes and 500 ml of water.

  7. Leave it to simmer for 10 minutes, then when the cabbage has subsided a bit, add water to cover the cabbage.

  8. Cook everything for about 60 minutes, without stirring, it is important to set the hob to a medium temperature.

  9. Finally, try the dish if you need seasoning add salt and pepper to taste, cook another 5 minutes, turn off heat.

  10. Serve with homemade bread or cornbread or bread.
