I wrote to you a long time ago about goulash, I said that it is prepared in many ways, so here is one of the simplest and most economical Hungarian recipes. When cooking this meal, it is extremely important that you always stir occasionally and that the pot is covered. Instead of beef, you can use pork or chicken meat, but if you are cooking chicken stew, cook it for about 2 hours. Chicken meat is cooked quickly, and it is significant in this dish that it gains flavor and thickness. Follow recipe.
Ingredients: simple, total time: 3 h, 4 servings
500 g of beef/cut into cubes
2 large onions/ finely chopped
2 bell peppers/finely chopped
2 finely chopped tomatoes
3 Tablespoons of sweet paprika
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 Tablespoons of olive oil
1 liter of meat broth
salt to taste
Preparation:
Prepare all the ingredients listed above as described.
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
Add the onions and peppers, cook until the onion is translucent, cook another about 5 minutes, with stirring.
Add the diced beef, cook with cover pot, until golden brown, about 20 minutes, with occasional stirring.
Add the chopped tomatoes, sweet paprika and black pepper, mix well. Simmer for about 10–15 minutes.
Pour the beef broth into the pot, stir well, and bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer for about 1 hour and 30 min, until the meat is tender and the gravy has thickened.
Season with salt and serve hot.
You can serve goulash with potato dumplings, polenta, pasta or simply with fresh bread. Enjoy your meal!
Buon appetito!
